Highlights from Ontario Loyalist Ancestors
These shells were a fad at the turn of the 20th century and were used as gifts to friends and relatives to celebrate a significant event, such as a birth or marriage. The photo below, included in Mr. Reeks' book, depicts examples of these shells. The inscriptions for the shells are as follows:

The American Genealogist goes on to say,"...this (book) is a carefully documented multi-family genealogy (that) centers on Ontario families, most of whom emigrated in the late 18th century; three, however, are 17 century New England families that had Loyalist descendants." These New England immigrants were: Thomas Birch of Dorchester, Massachusetts; Nathaniel Mott of Scituate and Braintree, Massachusetts; and John Rathbone of Block Island. The author discusses these families in detail.
All genealogical lines are fully documented in the book with supportive evidence from both primary and secondary sources including church records, civil vital records, census records, assessment court, probate, and newspaper notices, personal family records, military records and various other published records. A complete index of sources used and an index of personal names are also included in this book.
