Lindsay Sivewright Reeks
October 1, 1914 - June 18, 1997

Lindsay S. Reeks enjoyed big band music, baseball, dancing, camping, European travels, museums and archeology, but his life passion was genealogy and he wished that he could make his works available to all who were interested.  His wife, Helen, is carrying out that wish through sponsorship of this website.

Brief Biography:
Lindsay Reeks and his wife, Helen (Helen Frances Woodard), moved to Pleasant Hill, California in 1957 and they made their permanent residence in that locale.  Lindsay and Helen had three children.

Though Lindsay spent his employment years as a parole agent specialist for the California Youth Authority, his love of genealogy continued throughout his life.  His more than 40 years of research were culminated in the writing of four books (three offered through this site, and Scottish Coal Mining Ancestors).

A past vice president of the California Genealogical Society of San Francisco, Mr. Reeks also wrote numerous articles, and gave lectures on  English, Scottish, and Canadian genealogy.  Mr. Reeks was a twice-monthly volunteer consultant in the genealogy room at the Central Contra Costa Public Library where he happily shared with others his knowledge and passion of genealogical research.

A favorite topic of discussion and teaching was embodied in  his course entitled, "Sources and Evidence".  Mr. Reeks felt strongly about the importance of giving proper credit to all sources of information.  His detailed genealogical publications are testaments to that belief and all who read his works can enjoy both the content and the form of his detailed documentation.
